RECOMMENDED - Raising the Bar: Unleashing Generosity

Facilitated by: Joe Park and Rev. Lisa Greenwood, Access Pastor, First United Methodist Church Richardson and Horizons Ministry Strategist

Generosity is at the heart of what it means to be a devoted follower of Christ, yet we often structure our churches in ways that create consumers not generous givers. This workshop offers practical ways to raise the level of expectations for leadership and discipleship in the church thereby increasing investment in the church’s ministry and overall generosity.

Leading Outside the Walls: Taking the Church to the Streets

Facilitated by: Jorge Acevedo, Lead Pastor at Grace Church, a multi-site United Methodist congregation in Southwest Florida

Is the local church primarily a family or an army?  How you answer this question will directly impact the outreach possibility of your church.  In this workshop, Jorge will share about creating a culture of radical outreach and mission.  These principles have been “field tested” in his fifteen years at Grace Church.

Surviving and Thriving in the Long Pastorate

Facilitated by: Rev. Don Underwood, Senior Pastor, Christ United Methodist Church, Plano, Texas

With joys, opportunities, and challenges the long pastorate can be not only effective, but also enjoyable.  Dr. Underwood, with his belief that the long pastorate offers greater opportunities for a “God-Sized Vision”, will discuss the stages one goes through, the specific challenges, and the way in which the long pastorate offers specific leadership opportunities generally not attainable in a shorter term.

Performance Compass - Redirecting Unwanted Behavior

Facilitated by: Michael Allen, Consultant, The RAD Group

REGISTRATION FOR THIS WORKSHOP HAS REACHED CAPACITY.

When one follows the call to serve, rarely do they think that they will spend a majority of their working day redirecting the behavior of their staff, but they do.  With the very best intentions, others can behave in what we perceive to be unwanted or even irrational ways.  In this presentation, we will discover where human behavior comes from and how to redirect it in a sustainable and respectful manner.

Partnership Changes Lives - New Hope for Impoverished Communities: The Covenant Church Model for Planting Holistic Missions

Facilitated by: Rev. Owen Ross, Pastor of Christ's Foundry United Methodist Mission, Dallas, Texas

Research shows that congregations in the United States have been neglecting the poorest residents in the U.S. as well as persons born in non-English-speaking countries. The United Methodist Church continues to close churches in impoverished areas only to plant churches in wealthier areas. Rev. Owen K. Ross, Pastor of Christ's Foundry United Methodist Mission, offers a model for planting churches among the poorest.

More Than a Profile: Social Media Strategy for Your Ministry

Facilitated by: Scott McClellan, Director, Echo Conference

Explore the difference between a mere social media presence and an effective social media strategy. Creating a Twitter or Facebook account is free, but establishing dialogue, connections, and trust through social media comes with a price. We'll discuss the values, methods, and measurables of social media success in meaningful ministry.

You've got ideas that keep you awake at night. You've written things on napkins that you know were important but you can't read anymore. There is a nagging feeling inside you that you can't escape: that somehow, church can be real, honest and alive, that it can reach people and that it should be changing and growing. You're on a team of people that you like - but somehow you've got vision for more. So, how can you make a difference right where you are and be the change agent that Jesus created you to be? There aren't 3 easy steps...but we can point you in the right direction. (Hint: there are 7 easy steps)

Balancing Family and the Church

The Art of the Ask

Facilitated by: Joe Park, Partner, Horizons Stewardship Company and Dr. Stan Copeland

The simple act of asking "in person" for a financial gift can increase the size of the gift, studies say, by over 40% but actually doing so can be terrifying.  A well-formed and faithful ask can be transformative for both the church's ministry and the individual giver. This session offers seasoned experience and tested principles to help you successfully fund vision through personal invitations to give.

New Traditional Music...More Than a Sunday Morning Anthem

Facilitated by: Rev. Karen Chraska, Director of Music Ministry, Trietsch Memorial United Methodist Church, Flower Mound, Texas and Mike Lightfoot, Director of Music Ministry, First United Methodist Church, Richardson, Texas

Two concerts in one season; one featuring the Brahms Requiem in German and the other featuring Chancel Choir with Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers! Both were met with equal success! These two directors of large church music programs will discuss ways of building a vibrant, healthy music ministry that feeds the members of the choir while inspiring the members of their congregation. Traditional music can no longer be about filling an anthem slot over 52 consecutive Sundays. In order to reach today’s congregation we must offer music from G.F. Handel to Moses Hogan; from J.S. Bach to Mack Wilberg.

A successful cardiovascular exercise program provides renewed hope for a healthy life.

Video Venues and the Gift of New Life to Dying Churches

Facilitated by Paul Rasmussen, Associate Pastor, Cornerstone at Highland Park United Methodist Church, Dallas, Texas and Rev. Andrew Forrest, Pastor, Munger Place Church, a campus of Highland Park United Methodist Church, Dallas, TX

Where There is Fruit...There are Fruitflies: Dealing with the Problems of Success

Facilitated by Jim Ozier, Director of New Church Development & Congregational Transformation, North Texas Conference

Conversation in almost any United Methodist circle soon moves to the topic of "Fruitfulness."  It is no wonder that Jesus used the metaphor of fruitfulness...it speaks of being productive, of being successful.  The metaphor is not complete without the realization that with fruit there comes fruit flies!  They may look like obstinate members, facility challenges, fatigue, money woes, and on and on...but they are buzzing around.  Learn how to deal with the problems of success by focusing on overcoming complacency and complaining, while building momentum.

God, What am I Doing Here?

Facilitated by Olu Brown, Lead Pastor, Impact Church, Atlanta, Georgia

Exploring Samuel's unique call to ministry leaves us reflecting on our own call and ministry experiences as young adults. There are times when we wonder what we are doing in our current ministry positions. Our hope is that God has called us and is strategically positioning each of us.
